RHS Hampton Court – ‘A Cool Garden’

Originally constructed for RHS Hampton Court, this contemporary spa garden was awarded both a Gold Medal and Best in Show, before being reimagined for a private client. Designed as a peaceful retreat, the garden brings together thoughtful planting, sculptural materials, and layered seating to create a calming, immersive experience within a compact footprint.

The planting palette included over 50 varieties, selected for their soft tones and seasonal interest. Cool greens, silvery foliage and rusty hues complement the corten steel panels and water rills, offering a sense of balance and cohesion throughout.

Materials & Structure

Sleek structural glass elements, supplied by IQ Glass, introduced a refined architectural edge to the design. Oak decking and built-in seating create layered zones across the garden, allowing for movement through the space and the opportunity to sit in sun or shade at any time of day.

The trees, sourced from specialist nursery partners in Germany, provide height and structure, anchoring the planting while enhancing the feeling of seclusion and tranquillity.
