Set across a series of distinct levels, this family garden presented a unique challenge. The original layout felt disjointed, with areas cut off from one another and little visual flow. CGLA reimagined the space to create a layered, connected design full of colour, texture and atmosphere.
Family Garden Design Brief
The brief was to open up the rear garden to improve views from the house, while preserving moments of surprise and drama. It also needed to feel family-friendly, with stylish touches, enhanced planting, and an improved connection between levels.
Softened Levels and Stronger Connections
We carefully reworked the levels to create smoother transitions between spaces, improving access and flow. A rich planting palette softens boundaries, adds seasonal interest, and brings structure throughout the year.
The existing swimming pool was retained and enhanced, becoming a more integrated focal point thanks to surrounding planting and considered layout changes.
Planting for Colour, Structure and Warmth
In the front garden, we embraced a naturalistic style. Generous layers of planting help screen boundaries and anchor the house into its setting, while seasonal colour ensures the approach feels welcoming year-round.
Mature and new trees were selected to add height, colour and long-term structure, complementing existing specimens and helping the garden feel instantly established.
The result is a stylish and inviting space that balances openness with intrigue — a garden full of charm and designed for family life.
