CGLA designed the gardens for this striking new build, set within an extensive plot with sweeping views and a private lake. The scheme includes formal and informal garden areas, a “light touch” landscape for a paddock, and refined planting that enhances the architecture while providing year-round colour and texture.
Luxury Landscape Design Brief
The brief was to create an exceptional outdoor setting for a newly built residence and its associated buildings, including a studio and annexe. The paddock to the front required a naturalistic treatment that would function as a safe dog-exercise area while remaining visually appealing from the entrance drive and main house.
The client, a developer, managed the build and hard landscaping following CGLA’s designs, later inviting us back to elevate the planting with layers of colour, texture and structure to unify the scheme.
Gardens and Lake with Seamless Vistas
A sweeping driveway leads to the residence, framed by elegant planting that introduces a sense of arrival. An avenue of trees creates a dramatic feature across the paddock, leading the eye toward a tranquil lake that provides reflections and focal views from multiple points around the property.
The rear and side gardens were designed to ensure every key vista from within the house looks onto a beautifully framed garden view, seamlessly connecting interior spaces to the landscape.
Key Features of This Luxury Garden
The heart of the garden is the outdoor kitchen, set beside a herb and gravel garden designed for relaxed summer dining and entertaining. A separate “bar area” offers a playful, contemporary contrast to the more formal gardens, providing diverse spaces for socialising.
Planting across the site includes themed palettes for different zones, blending larger shrubs, ornamental grasses, specimen trees, and seasonal perennials. This layered approach ensures the gardens feel cohesive, with structure, movement, and colour throughout the year.
Planting and Finishing Touches
CGLA’s upgraded planting design combines bold architectural hedging and statement trees with softer perennial and grass layers to deliver a balanced composition. Large acers and extensive grass borders soften the transition to the paddock beyond, tying the formal gardens into the surrounding landscape.
The result is a luxurious, cohesive garden that enhances the property’s lifestyle appeal and long-term value while respecting the integrity of the original design.
