This rural Buckinghamshire estate required a sympathetic redesign to enhance its extensive grounds and integrate new landscape features, including an upgraded pool, pool building, retaining walls, and a water feature. The aim was to create a harmonious series of garden spaces, linking different areas seamlessly while complementing the house’s classic architecture.
A previously fallow section of the garden was transformed with heavily planted mounds, forming a naturalistic meadow-style space with meandering pathways. This approach not only enhanced biodiversity but also cleverly repurposed spoil from other areas of the site.
Grand Entrance & Specimen Tree Selection
A striking feature of the design was the introduction of large specimen trees, adding structure, scale, and seasonal interest. An elegant entrance avenue was planted to create a distinguished arrival experience, while carefully positioned parrotias and other standout specimens were hand-selected by the client from options tagged by the design team during a visit to European nurseries. These trees will continue to mature, providing year-round beauty and anchoring the garden within its surroundings.
Thoughtful Construction & Planting
The landscaping and planting were carried out by the CGLA team, working closely with the designers to ensure that every detail was executed as envisioned. The collaborative process allowed for adjustments to be made in real-time, ensuring that any refinements remained in keeping with the overall plan.
This project balanced sympathetic restoration with bold new ideas, blending timeless elegance with fresh, dynamic elements. The result is a garden that feels both established and evolving, offering a variety of spaces to explore, from the structured entrance to the soft, flowing meadow areas.
