Sogex Hill Residential Complex is located in Muscat, Oman, and covers an area of 31,700sqm. The site is quite elevated offering views to the Gulf of Oman to the north, and the Al Hajar mountains to the south.

The proposed scheme comprises 2 new residences, a recreation centre, friends quarters, kids quarters, staff quarters, a meeting cottage, a new Arabic Majlis, a heavy duty kitchen, security cabin, staff amenity space, and an updated arrival experience to the existing Chairman`s Villa. The scheme also includes a range of both covered and uncovered parking options, a new energy centre for the whole site.

The clients vision for the site was to create a series of residences and multi-use spaces, which both work with and compliment the needs of a large, multi-generational family, along with providing amenities and interconnecting green spaces that both the family and their friends can enjoy throughout the year.

The Design Approach: Rhythm Of The Desert

As with the rest of the Arab world, Omani culture is closely tied to the Islamic faith. However, the coastal location of Oman strongly influences its music scene. The traditional Omani music puts a strong emphasis on rhythm. Every stage of the life of an Omani like birth, marriage, and death, is accompanied by traditional music.

Using this concept of rhythm and repetition an overarching, holistic design language was required in order to unify the site and to help define spatial relationships, functions and hierarchy.

This was achieved by using interconnecting covered walkways formal groves of trees and water features to create cooling, comfortable microclimates. Sculptural framing devices and vistas to capitalize on the impressive views towards the Al Hajar mountains and to seamlessly link the external spaces and private courtyards. Creating balance and a natural connection that provides an intuitive sense of calm and unity.
